STANLEY bola založená už v roku 1913. Od tejto doby stále zdokonaľuje svoj pôvodný legendárny výrobok – vákuovú kovovú nádobu, zjednodušene termosku, podľa americkej spoločnosti Thermos LLC, ktorá vznikla ešte o niečo skôr, v roku 1904, ale jej výrobok bol zo skla a bol tak veľmi krehký a nepraktický. V tom čase už uznávaný vynálezca William Stanley Jr., pracujúci v Edisonových laboratóriách na projekte trasnformátora s vákuovo oddelenými stenami, zistil, že túto vákuovú technológiu, kedy sa spájajú dve kovové steny a medzi nimi sa vyčerpá vzduch, mohol použiť aj pre iné, než elektrotechnické účely.
