Drevo Cumaru je extrémne tuhé, silné a tvrdé. Niekedy sa používa na miesto oveľa menej vzácneho Lignum Vitae. Cumaru sa tiež nazýva menom Tonka Bean a strom sa bežne pestuje pre svoje vanilkovo-škoricové parfumované semeno fazuľa tonka, ktoré obsahuje chemickú zmes nazývanú kumarín. Niekedy sa označuje aj ako brazílsky teak.
